Question about exhaust
So I have a few questions about changing my exhaust.
1. If I remove my resonator, what effect will this have on the engine back pressure? Will this effect my fuel economy? What difference in sound if any will this produce?
2. If I were to remove the resonator and install a new muffler, what kind of changes will this have on fuel economy and engine performance?
3. What kind of muffler should I choose should I go this route? Keeping in mind I am not looking in any real performance gains, I just want to get better sound from the engine while not having to muck about with computers.
Thnx

If you remove the resonator, you'll mostly get that popping, sputtering, cracklely, "fart can" noise.
I would advise to leave the resonator on and go with a performance style muffler.
I have a Flowmaster HP2 shorty, but mine is a SS, so not sure how that would sound on your's. One thing you want to avoid is a muffler that will have that "drone" noise at highway cruising speeds. Very annoying.
I don't get that drone with the Flowmaster.
Fuel mileage. Probably won't make any noticeable change in which ever way you choose.

The resonator is designed to "tune" the exhaust and remove sound waves from the exhaust. Mine is removed on my SS and it made it a little different, but I really can't how much different...It's not much...From what I understand, resonators aren't much different from a simple cherry bomb muffler

You'll see no difference removing the resonator besides a little extra sound. If you add a nice intake the sound is significantly louder with the resonator gone. As for extra mpg or power...that's a big negative.
Swapping out the muffler got no extra power or extra mpgs for me on my 2.4. I did the resonator delete first then about 6 months later I wanted more sound and added a Magnaflow. It's pretty loud...not ricey at all...only recently started cracking a little under decelation but it sounds good.
