Trimming stock air box
Looks good Jay-
Being ram-air, it should get enough air. But for the true venturi effect, IMO the openings could be enlarged like Vettes. etc. (not as big) but funnel type openings..
And personally I would like the vacuum pipes to be bigger to start with..
The limiting of the venturi effect is when air reaches a state of choked flow..

have you been driving in any heavy rains ??
Air Box Cutdown
I like the looks of all of the air box mods you folks have done. I am wondering though if any of you have seen a higher DIC coolant temperature than before you modified your air boxes. I'm trying to reason in my feeble little mind why GM made that thing soooo big. Could it have anything to do with maximizing the air flow over the engine? Just wondering.
Its called job security for so many Engrs. make it complicated then Mgt. doesnt know how to change it?

That may be true for some motors, to slow the passing air to help cool the head etc..
I am sporting a GMPP CAI, & think it that was an issue GM would not have designed the GMPP CAI, like a trimmed down box..
Just sayin..

our motors are liquid cooled, unlike original VWs and corvairs. more or less air around the engines won`t do stink unless it`s liquid nitrogen or a flame thrower. have not seen any temp changes on mine unless you consider it being in upper 90`s lately. but i do notice crisper response from long pedal and a tad better mileage from the cold air intake i set up

Modded stock air box.
Now that Im getting cold air from above the radiator, I just put in the K&N filter and drove around town for awhile outside air temp. 90of lifted the hood and felt the metal tubes the first half coming from the intake was cooler than the outside air as I moved up the tube it was warmer as I got to the tube closer to the air box the temp., was warmer so the Venturi effect is working.
