Just to let you know, i have taken my car in with the trimmed air-box and with the hot rod style air cleaner on. Never had a problem with the dealer to get my car serviced. Just getting it back because everybody wants to check it out.

Thanks for the info. If I don't radically modify it enough to set codes, then the dealers shouldn't have anything to object to. I looked at a '06 Ion this morning, it too was off to the side. I may peek under the hood of the Quad4 (parked for 3 yrs> loose timing chain and busted CV) to see if it's amenable to a swap. I would still like to be able to go OEM if neccessary.

I finally checked.Forget the Quad4 air cleaner design; it snakes over under the rad and hoses, and still draws in air from the engine compartment. One snorkel is about a foot off the ground (facing down, behind the radiator) , and the other is wedged between the battery and left headlight. Maybe the Ecotech turtle isn't so bad. P.S. I never read the post(s) about the grommets popping loose, mine were too stuck...I've just unbolted the brackets from the engine. Still needs to be modded!

wipe a ligt bit of grease on the grommets or the mounting pins.. It will stay in place, but come off easily when needed to..

I went for broke, and gave it a huge yank...the thing finally let go. Since I was changing the oil and checking everything else, I lubed it as suggested. Re-installed and tried again. Perfect. Now to just trim the excess, and I think I can live with this design after all.

Cool... One member here has Dyno'ed with the stock box & aftermarket set-ups.
(I'm paraphrasing here) He reported the stock air box was very Efficient, & other set-ups were only better possibly cosmetically...fwiw.
