I had the back panal off for a long time when I was having battery trouble and it made it easier to boost the car. I kind of got spoiled and enjoyed using the extra places to store stuff. Once my dealer finally gave me a new battery, I knew I should put that piece back on, but hated the idea of losing all of that storage. So I found a solution. I cut an opening with my trusty Dremel tool. Until you open the storage bin, you cant see the hole. But there is enough room to put things under next to the spare tire.

Battery is on the passanger side. Jumping the car from under the hood generally causes a fuse (radio) to blow for some reason. It is a common problem and has happened to me.
Plus, boosting from the battery itself (and also charging it as I have often had to do) is better than doing it at a remote location and having the voltage run through the wires to the battery, as there may be current loss. Nothing is as good as direct.
No need to pan camera left, as it is stock.
The opening is large enough to fit small and medium items, like my emergency 12 volt inverter, cleaning rags, wax, etc. It is out of sight and much easier to access since I dont have to remove everything from the tray and unscrew it to get to the spare tire compartment. I was thinking about putting on a hinged door, but since it is not visible with the compartment closed there was no need to. (I did make a door for the compartment I made where the factory subwoofer was, and added a magnetic plunger to keep it shut without needing a knob to open it.
