Talk about keeping an engine area clean...
You ought to try keeping a white engine and engine compartment clean.
Now THIS takes a bit of extra work but all worth it in the end...
Wow! awesome job Kahuna! & to all the others thanks for your input. I'm going to try and stay away from hosing it down..the crud's not so bad that I would need to do that.

As stated earlier........... if you clean REALLY GOOD once....... then stay on top of it....... not a problem to keep nice.

I wipe the engine compartment every time i wash the HHR. Also wipe the door jambs, hatch jamb and any place else that shows.

Kinda anal about cleanliness.

I'm a little, okay a LOT, on the lazy side.....

For me, I use some degreaser, low pressure water, and detailing spray. For the a/c lines I use billet polish, really makes it shine!

After getting *shamed* by Tim, aka TkHHR and Todd (UMA) at Original Mike's for not cleaning the gas hatch, I finally popped open the hood when I got home and well, it is a good thing they didn't look there too!

Although for having Blackie only 6 months, I thought he looked pretty ok...but know I have that to worry about keeping clean too!

doh!

Good thing our next event isn't for a few weeks..
TARGET list: cat food, dog treats, Simple Green

You people have some outstanding detailed engine compartments. I'm looking forward to spring so that I can do some of the things that you have done under the hood of my HHR SS.

For those that like to use Simple Green..or Purple , suggest that you thin it out with water about 50/50...Both have been known to spot aluminum and its somewhat harsh.I just use an old spray bottle and spray it on after knocking the loose stuff off with a hose.Works great..cleans up the plastic well and even does a good job on battery crud.Ive been doing this for years and never had a problem.

What kind of liner is that on the underside of your hood?

Is spray detailer the best to use on the aluminum block? Does it burn and darken? I want to find something to coat it with to keep away the corrosion that grows on aluminum. Ive cleaned other cars with steel wool but it gets worse later... And some dressings attract dirt.
