Question Chrome Paint?

As some of you know I'm doing a fire truck theme on my HHR. I was trying to find a diamond plate dash kit but no one makes one. I have found chrome ones. I don't really like them b/c of the coating the company puts over the top. So I was thinking of buying chrome spray paint and doing some of the parts in that. My question is has any one done/seen this and does it look cheap?

Would NOT recommend it. Chrome spray paint, at best, is intended for repairing existing chrome parts if rust removal is performed. If you spray a large area with it, it's going to look not dissimilar to the inside of an aluminum can: huge drip lines and non uniform. It doesn't look cheap, it looks uber-cheap.

Have you seen the dash kits? Do they look ok with the coating? They say its real metal but the pics I've seen it looks fake.
