Dome light LED
Dome light LED
I plan to replace my combination LED "light wash" light and sunroof control (and empty spot for OnStar microphone) with the 2009+ dome light/sunroof control/empty OnStar microphone spot when my head liner has to be removed to fix the sunroof. Dealer says he can run a wire to the right place to make it function as a dome light (that is, 3 position switch with one for only when doors are open) for an extra half hour of labor. I'm not doing the "turn around" for the other dome light because I want light in the rear when I open the gate at night. The LED light was eliminated (and TWO more dome lights added) in 2009 when the window controls were moved from the center console to the doors. I did read the threads about putting light wires around the console window controls so they can be seen at night. My only remaining question is how much difference does it make NOT to have that "light wash" effect when it's dark outside? I don't really notice that it's present now, but I might notice when it's gone. I know some other people have done various modifications to that area that had the effect of eliminating the LED, and wonder whether that tiny LED was missed.
