Angry Love Bugs / hood protection

I've had the car for just over a week and yesterday what did I see - LOVE BUGS!

(I put this in SE since we're the only ones who have to deal with the stupid things.)

What's a love bug? I don't think we have them in NY or they have a different name here.

You don't have them in NY (be thankful!). They're (so far) confined to the southeast. We get to experience the pleasure of being attacked by mating bugs for 2-3 weeks twice a year. They'll kill a paint job.

After reading that I'm glad we don't have them in NY. That must suck! How do you avoid the problem. A lot of car washes and wax?

They are also called Japanese beatles or sometimes Junebugs in the south. They will distroy a frut bearing or sweet flowering tree in a day when they are mateing.

I got to ride along with Herbie the Love Bug on it's trek across the USA on Route 66
during the movie promotion last year! (although the "Real Herbie" was being trailered
during my drive along of the event, the spirit was the same.)

This image taken from my VW Van...

the yellow Baja a few VW's up is Mr BumpStops car!

Protection for My car

Here in Florida we have nasty little flying insects that can peel the paint off your car.
They are called LOVE BUGS and I just put on the LeBra front end cover.
Before my trip home

and when I got home 135 miles later

I am so glad I got one of those after seeing this when I got home.
I love my car and it deserves the best protection as possible.
