Question New here and question about my HHR's headlights

I have a 07 Orange HHR. I purchased it new in Oct. I am trying to modify the car and put some HID's in it. I had to get a harness to pull the power from the battery. But here is my issue I hooked the wires up to the drives side headlight wiring to trigger them to come one.

Since I wasn't using the passenger side outlet to trigger the lights I just pulled the bulb out. When I pulled the bulb it wouldn't let either of the headlights to turn on. If I stuck the stock bulb back in both headlights would fire.

I am confused as why this is happening since I put HIDs in another GM car with HIDs and did it the sameway and had no issues. Can anyone help or am I stuck having a hard time seeing?

Lights out

Sounds like the lights are wired in series and not parallel.
