One Bar Wonder Grill is DONE!
Paint Match
Just go to your local automobile paint store. They'll look up the code for your paint in the engine compartment on the HHR I believe, and you can buy a pint for about $38 (at least for my Cappauccino Frost). You'll need some clear as well. Guess you might try to use spray can paint that's close, but after doing all the hard work, why sacrifice perfection.
Am sure your local bodyman would paint it for you for $35-40 plus cost of paint if you don't have a spray gun. Most of the bodyshops mix their own on site and have the formulas.

That looks wonderful the Grill looked great all red then you put the badge on and it was outstanding!
I do have a question where did you get the matching paint I would like to do something like that but in the black but need to match the factory paint? Any suggestions?

The dealer may not have every color in stock, but they will order your color if you talk to them. When I decided to paint my CGS I went to the dealer and they ordered me 2 cans of Sunburst Orange. It was $11 a can, but it matches perfectly.
GTOmike, can you explain how and what you did to fill the cutouts on the sides? I see you used resin and cloth...and then used bondo. Can you make a list of what you need? I'm thinking I'd like to do that as well.
thanks!
thanks!
can you put together a more detailed HOW-TO on this? I'm really intereted in getting a spare grill and doing this instead of buying a billet or something like that after i get mine. Few questions for it.
- You peeled the chrome off of it. If i found a satin one, is there something to peel off, or would it be better then starting with chrome.
- why did you cut the top and bottom bars to that specified size, just aesthetics or another reason?
- can you give some really in detail info about filling in the gaps where you cut the other bars out. You use cloth and resin, it said, what kind of cloth, resin all of that? Did you then bondo it as well? D you worry about the bondo cracking over time being attached to plastic. I did a custom ipod dock in my jimmy awhile back with bondo in the cd holder area, and it eventually cracked in the heat and cold.
Other then that, this looks amazing, if i can figure out how to do it, i will be doing it.
