Rear mods...take a look!
If you own a Mini, the last thing you worry about breaking are the cool dual rear wipers because you'll be spending more money replacing the run-flat tires, wiring harnesses, seat adjusters, door handles, sunroof actuators, and wheel bearings.
I got my Lancer, sorry ha to say it, Hows this coming along, I am working on a 52 chevy down the street and we are getting it ready for some paint. its going to be candy apple grean, I had to do a lot of metal work on it so I know how hard it is with the HHR. I have done the smae to the 52 pick
DAMN Crafty! too much crap huh?! is that what youve read up on, cus i really hope that you didn't have to go thru that
Hey, I had a 1963 Austin Mini Countryman. It was the woody version of the Mini wagon. It had barndoors just like you are trying to make. Home depot uses a Countryman on the cover of one of their paint brochures. I will see if I can find a photo of a mini rear. My photos of my past cars went away with my ex-wife.
Barn door update
Well, here's a couple update pics...finally! First one shows door open to first detent on hinge...90-100 degrees. Second is at full open...170-180 degrees. I know, there's only one hinge, but with hidden hinges & the curvature & design of the rear body area, I found it impossible to incorporate the other hinge from this assembly (new body style full size GM extended cab pickup rear door). This is one BEEFY hinge, it'll easily handle the weight of this door. I'm triangulating a square tube structure inside each door to tie into hinge to prevent sagging. If I were to do another one in the future, I'd go with external hinges so two could be used. But, since this is not a commercial van or other delivery vehicle with the cargo doors being opened & closed many many times each day, it should be fine. I chose to go with hidden hinges, that's the sacrifice for stealth
Bad news is that I have to put this on hold for awhile & mount the new liftgate I just got so I can put this garage queen on the road! My trusty daily driver finally succumbed to the 14 salty Ohio winters & just isn't structurally safe to drive anymore
The HHR will now be my daily driver until fall, at least I can still work on the doors on the bench while I enjoy driving the HHR
