Rock Chips

I own a 2006 HHR. Besides adding running boards, does anyone know how to keep rock chips off of the front of the rear fenders? I put mudflaps on it from day one and that didn't help. Any ideas?

The 2006 models have plastic rock guards, those may have been an optional.

The later models have a film rock guard that works fine for me. The dealer should be able to get them at a reasonable price.

Mine has the plastic rock guards and they are all chipped up. Will the film go over my plastic after they are painted and protect them?
