Roof rail cross bar noise

Now I know why Chevy doesn't include the cross bars with the roof rails.

I just had mine installed and found out that they "howl" between 35 and 45 mph. It's kind of annoying, but I get used to it. I asked my dealer about it, and he admitted that yes, they DO howl in the wind, but the noise stops when the sun roof is put up.

I carry a car top carrier when I travel, so I didn't really have a choice. For a rather expensive part, I wouldn't recommend them unless you absolutely need them.

Gee I have no noise with mine. They have been on for months, and my window is normally down, plus no sunroof.
Good luck with yours.

Maybe installing one of those permanent sunroof deflectors would stop the problem even when the sunroof is closed. Just a thought!!

Here's a link to an HHR net vendor that sells them: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...roof+deflector

I think somebody mentioned using the foam insulating pipe rap (the kind cut down the middle) and mount it along the x rail using a couple of turns of tape to hold it on. Said it stopped the noise.

Could be a cheap trial fix.

I may try a different brand like yakima, they probably do more testing for this kind of thing.
