I was one of the lucky ones that got mine installed free, It did help that the sales manager bought a black 2lt for his wife and they were fixing it at the same time..

Got my running boards put on March 2nd.
Glad I did. Makes my HHR look a little sleeker.

Picked up my running boards tonight.

Currently they are in the small bathroom next to the anti sway bar and the splash guards (doesn't everyone keep car parts in the bathroom?)

I washed the 2007 HHR Sunday, found plenty of "blasting" on the back doors / fenders on both sides. The car has 5700 miles. I only drive on paved (blacktop and cement) roads. GM split the cost of factory HHR splash guards when the car was new that have not helped. I went to the dealer body shop Monday to find out what could be done to repair and correct the issue. The estimate to replace/repaint and add running boards(assist steps) was $1323.92. More than 10% of the dealer offered trade in value of $13,000. What should my next step be? What can mend my disappointment?

Running boards should be sold to you at dealer cost and installed no charge. The repair/repaint should be covered by a TSB for this very problem. It should only cost you around $500. Some have even got the running boards free!!

I will not spend another cent of my own money on this crap! I already paid for the splash guards that did nothing. I am almost sick about this car.

I would not blame the car. GM may have overlooked this problem but the solution has been out there for some time. Now your dealer, well thats another story. IMO you should find another dealer who has there sh^& in the right sock not to mention their prices. I added running boards to mine , after purchase, for less than $600 and that was dealer installed..
