Smoked tailights getting hot

Hey guys, I just removed my twilight lenses last night and did the Rustoleum Lens Spray Tint.
Two medium coats and the 3 coats of Clear Gloss. Reinstalled and went to bed.
Today I'm getting gas and I leaned against the top lens. That joker was super hot. Could the darker lens be trapping heat and has anyone else experienced this?
TIA!

Apologies for so many questions lately. I just became a member here. I spent the last week doing lots of small mods to the car.

Yup, even the bone stock taillights get kinda toasty after a while.

You could try putting 3157, instead of 3057, bulbs in there. I think they are a bit cooler, they are the bulbs for the front turn signal/DRL/running.

You could also go with LED bulbs , get the canbus bulbs, I saw them in Autozone, but others should have them.

LED tail lights are not exactly legal in some states.

Good idea on the 3157 bulbs Don, you've got your thinking cap on my friend.

Also a good point on checking the Vehicle Code in Kentucky, I think retrofit LED bulbs are acceptable, but things like those horrendous "Altezza Style" clear lamps are still a "no-no".

The LED bulbs in the NAPA store are clearly marked "NOT FOR STREET USE, SHOW ONLY", same as rotating front plate mounts.

But, most safety inspectors don't notice.
