has anyone cut the rods inside the door down all the way so you can just patch the lock hole and not use a lock knob at all? Thats what I'd like to do but need info on how to do it right, or a reason not to do it.
Thanks

I'd like to do that, too. I don't see a reason to use the lock knobs as I have the door lock buttons on the same door as well! I understand the "emergency lock in" factor, but you can always open any of the other doors. The reason I'd prefer smoothies over patched holes is the cool look of that chrome, lol.

So let me see if i have this right. I can go intolets say "Advanced Auto Parts" and ask for Smootie or Stubby lock pins for an HHR. I've googled it and can't seem to find them.

I have 1 full set 4 door knobs, the person that I bought them for moved and I have them still. Anyone want? PM me. All 4 $12.00 plus shipping or 2 for $6.00 plus shipping. That is what I paid for them. I got them from SoCal on eBay before they were gone.

No one said you could get these exact ones at a parts store! I said go and find a set you like.

I doubt they were ever named smoothie or stubby by anyone other than SoCal.

Don't forget they won't be specifically for the HHR seeing as how nobody makes HHR specific door lock knobs.

I think about the only reason to not cut them off would be if you had a total electrical system failure or a lock system failure so that the automatic door locks would not operate.

Or maybe because you don't want to hassle with it and the "elbow jab" is gone with just switching them out.
