I had mine put on after the fact, but I also have the molded splash gaurds, no scratches, BUT I did not do them myself, the dealer did them. Good luck with your decision!

The # 17801080 low enough to protect the sides?

My HHR came only with running boards but I still will be installing the moulded splash guards, the moulded splash guards look fine and they do give you a little more protection...if you don't want them send them my way.

I don't have running boards, that's why I am needing splash guards.

IMO I would keep them both. I have both on my HHR and they do a great job of keeping the underside of the running boards chip free and clean.

It also depends on your daily drive. Is there a lot of construction, lot of loose pebbles on the road, etc. I do have some contruction I go through, but majority of the roads I drive on a daily basis are not that bad. All I have is splash guards and they do the job. I will probably get running boards eventually, but more of a style than a necessity. So like I said, it really also depends on your driving environment.

I have no scratches at all. I pulled my front ones off to install factory running boards and every thing looks great. Put the front ones back on for more protection.
