Switched seats now Service light
In the middle of same situation right now. Switched to SS seats, which, by the way, made an incredible difference! Dealer says I need to replace the original seat module, as the vehicle's computer will only recognize that one. They did try to make the new one work. I'm swapping put modules as soon as I click "send".

Lethal,
I went to switch the modules, but like you the connectors are totally different. Others have changed seats out, so not really sure why the universe is against us. My SS seats are from an '08 I think, installed in my '10 Panel.
One dealer tried to reprogram, but that didn't work. Another dealer says it simply can't be made usable. My next step is to go to a knowledgable stereo shop I do biz with and see if they can rig a something that will match up the old/new connectors. Going this Friday. I'll keep you posted.

Every model year during the lifespan of the HHR's production has minor differences, as to why, that's for the GM engineers to explain.
But an incompatibility in the SRS systems between model years does not surprise me, and do take care, airbags can and will kill you if you're not 110% sure of what you're doing.

That is one of the reasons that it is not legal to use SRS parts that don't match the year and exact model.
I had a GM tech bumble about for 3-4 hours trying to program a new SRS control module. They don't know what they are doing. As far as I can tell you should be able to match up new parts, each part has a serial number that needs to be coded into the computer systems.
Try a good body shop or ask them who does their airbag work.
