After coming home from a car show several years ago disgusted with the prices they were commanding for cut vinyl graphics, I spent over a grand just to save twenty and purchased two cutters; yea I know it makes no sense.

This front Bowtie had an issue with the gold scaling off the backside. Vinyl just did not seem like a solution; so after media blasting the logo down to nuthin more than a textured tinted piece of plastic, sprayed it with a Hyundai silver (cause that's what we had on hand) and was left with this. Up close and in person it almost has a hammered appearance from the aluminium oxide abrasion.

That's not to say I don't think vinyl has it's place if I ever find it.
Here's one I'm trying out & will probably decide is too cheezy even for me.

I have $12 invested and the guy sent 4 of them in case I messed up with the install..that is a to my door price. Vinyl can be very expensive for sure. Had it not turned out like I hoped for..I wasn't out much. Is it possible to get the gold off the back and used a different color from behind?

They are backed with silver... The gold color comes from the amber plastic.

Yours looks good as it is, it just wasn't the look I desired.

The gold appeared to be painted on the backside and it had a shine to it like chrome paint. Application of aluminium oxide at 100 psi removed all of it in no time.

Suppose one could repaint the backside and I briefly pondered that; in my case, had also blasted the front just because I didn't use xtra effort to mask it off and it was then even less transparent. Can't think of any method for gold removal from the bowtie that won't cloud the plastic to some degree.

I own a sign shop and a piece of vinyl the size you need cost about 15 cents. Go to your local sign shop and ask them if you can look through their scraps for a small piece. Tell them you'll give them a buck or two. Squeegee it in place with a credit card and trim it with an exacto knife. It's really easy and cheap.
