one of the shops that said $4k is the one i go to all the time for work. i have know him since i was 6yrs old. he usually hooks me up, not this time.

the shop that quoted $2500 told me that they had to remove all the windows and if they broke one they weren't responsible for it.

so far the cheapest on air ride has been $1600 shipped from airbagit.com. thats the same company i got the air ride for my Celica. that price if for strut bags on the front, cups and bags for the rear, 5 gal tank, 2 switches, 4 3/8 valves(front and rear only), 1 compressor and all the fittings and lines. not a bad price, but the rear cups need welded in.

chad, i was gonna sell it, but after thinking about it and talking to my dad, im not gonna make the same mistake i did with my celica. $30k in the car and sold it for $9800.
i just put the 20s back on today and detailed it, so im gonna keep it.

I hear you there, I spent a ridiculous amount of $$$$ on my Vibe and traded it in 4yrs later for my HHR SS for $7k with most of the mods still on it!

Jared, if you're not going for total show quality(which it sounds like you're not) the glass doesn't have to come out. The painters you talked to are probably worried that if the small gap around the quarter windows & liftgate is not prepped properly, that will give the new paint a place to start peeling. Also difficult to get paint into that small gap, especially when trying to cover a light color with a dark (such as the combo you want) or vice versa. Could use an airbrush first to get it in there. Get the same shops to give you a price as if the glass were already out. A glass shop wouldn't charge all that much to remove & reinstall the three windows...I did mine at home myself & didn't break anything & I'm no glass expert. The last option would be to do the lower body a different color & leave your silverstone on top...eliminating alot of the prep/disassembly.

Glad you're keeping your HHR, hope to see you at the meet!

ok, went to a couple smaller shops here in town. one has been in the same location for 40+ years doin body work and paint.
to paint the lower half its gonna run about $1400 and he would have it for about a week and a half.

another shop quoted me between $1500 and $1800 for the lower AND to fix ALL the dents and dings on the whole car. $1200 to $1500 for the top half of the car.

hopefully we get a good amount back on our taxes and if i can sell my subaru ill have the work done before the June meet.

Was given a quote of $4,400* by a local Chevy dealer to have the whole car repainted. Insurance co. set me up w/ a shop just down the road from me, and the quote from them was $3,800. Well after finding out just how much work was involved in removing the front windshield and headliner, they will probably be billing the insurance co. about another $1,200.

Be prepared for this if you decide to get the top half done.......

* forgot to mention that head lamps and windshield are also included in the quotes.
