What's the deal with the bowtie?

Hi everyone. As a new HHR owner (had it 4 days now), i looked a many used HHR's before i bought mine.

On every one, without exception, there was some type of discoloration, bubble or other issue with the either the grill or tailgate (sometimes both) bowties.

I guess i can understand that on a 2006, but mine is a 2009 and has a 'bubble' at the top of the tailgate bowtie already.

What gives? I see a lot of folks are repainting theirs, is anyone repairing them, and if so... how?

thanks!
steve

Most have them replace under warranty or paint them. Common issue, since they're glued on and not weather sealed.

Image?

My front one is good (knock on wood) but the rear's got a big 'ol nasty bubble on it. You'd think they'd want that part of the car to look good (represent ) but it's the first thing that starts looking bad.

Yeah, it is very common.
You'd think GM would do a better job with quality control on these (durability).

It literally gives the impression of a "damaged brand".
I'm a Chevrolet fan, but this thing is just fodder for the "haters"...

i have had mine covered with a full wrap of black vinyl for over a year now, so no idea if it is bubbled up under there.

If you're interested in doing it with vinyl (not the precut ebay ones, but by hand) send me a message, I have instructions.

My front one had water behind it so I did the same thing as twistrman and covered them with black vinyl

I've never had a problem with mine and I have had my 2006 for 4 years now. It has been through lots of snow and many car washes and no problems at all.

Makes me wonder if the supplier was changed at some point after initial production.

Mike,

I like the carbon fiber, they look nice and well-done.
