Word of caution, easily dented back panel

I bought my HHR in January and love it. I have no complaints. However I do want to caution HHR owners that when you are closing the hatchback, it's best to close by the bowtie. I recently used both hands on the sides of the license plate recessed area to close the hatch and it dented the panel where my hands were. I used a "little pressure" to close it as I was fighting a gust of wind.

I actually used a toilet plunger to pull one of the dents out, but the other one took a dent puller kit from a local automotive store.

So be careful!

I always put my hand on the tag itself and never slam. With no wind, I just pull and release of the handle and it closes fine.

I push on the bowtie so I don't get handprints all over my freshly detailed car.

I wouldn't recommend closing it by the bowtie. Put a little too much pressure on the beauty bar and you'll end up with dents at the edge of the hatch where it meets the beauty bar that a body shop will have to repair. Trust me from personal experience. The best way to close your hatch is the way Chevy recommends; with the handle that they put on the bottom of the hatch that's meant for closing it. That is the only way I close it since I bent the hatch where it meets the beauty bar and had it repaired.

captain...same thing here except I haven't repaired it yet...how much did it cost you to get the dent out. I have it just on one side of the beauty bar...
