Correct Reprogram to tell it what radio is in it, not that 2009 matters.

Not sure on the jack, but I believe it is gone replaced by the USB which is compatable to all MP3 players.

My thinking was that the 2008 software has no idea how to associate the wheel controls to a USB port, and that a 2009 version would be needed for the BCM. I guess it is possible though that the head unit itself accepts wheel control input and interprets instructions for the USB port. Sorry, Im a computer engineer, I ponder this stuff for fun.

Here's a pic of a 2009 head unit.

Complete with 1/8th" input and USB.

Looking at the 2009 brochure. The radio is showing the iPod menu through the USB connection. I guess this would make the P.A.L. obsolete?

Nice to plug a 32GB flash drive in with all your music. :) Way Cheaper than an iPod

From Chevys web site:

The NEW USB port, available in LT and SS models, connects the jump drive and offers complete functionality through HHR's stereo system.
Flip through your tunes using the available steering wheel-mounted audio controls while the radio displays all of your playlist information from your
MP3 player or select iPod(R) models. (iPod(R) not included.

I always thought a Flash Drive and Jump drive are the same? Hopefully someone can give us the details how a memory stick will work.

The newer iPods (Nano) dont have hard drive but memory banks....the same as a Flash drive.

Chevy did say "Select" ipods :)

It probably just reads the songs off of whatever device is plugged in. That may mean it takes a while to build the playlist. Hopefully someone who has one will chime in here.
GM probably introduced this to replace the buggy/slow/expensive PAL.
