Adding Subs to the Panel

I've been working very hard to add some subs to the Panel. I did not take any pictures of the install, but I'll tell you this... if you want to replace the factory 8" subwoofer, it's a pain in the ass to get to it.

Instructions:

1. Remove the entire flooring of the panel. Need 45 star tool, 18mm long socket, 10mm long socket, and two people to lift out the center storage compartment. It's one big piece. Take it out yourself and you risk banging up HHR with it. Make sure you get all of the cargo tie-down points removed. Then you have to take off all the side panels around the metal support that held the center storage in place. Then you remove the metal support. It's bigger than the storage compartment but much lighter. Careful not to cut your self. Very sharp edges.

2. Remove top and lower plastic panels near the hatch. They pull right off.

3. Pop off the Side Air Bag logo on the driver side pillar behind the side cargo door. Use the 6mm socket to remove the screw behind it.

4. Start pulling the bottom panel. Once loosen all around, start pulling at the top rear panel where it meets the bottom rear panel. Now all of the panels should be removed.

5. Remove the metal brace in front of the subwoofer. Disconnect the subwoofer cable connector. Then the long socket 10mm to remove the three or four nuts that holds the subwoofer enclosure.

6. It takes twice as long to put it back together than to remove it.

After examining the enclosure, I found it too small for my application. So I put everything back. Before doing so, I tapped into the pre-out wires and installed RCA cables to run to an amplifier. I'll will now be installing a 1000W Mono-Block Alpine V12 Digital Amplifier, 2-Farad Capacitor and two 12" Kicker Solobaric L7 Subwoofers (square subs). Overkill? Yes.

It's a sealed enclosure. I'm planning on ripping out the storage compartment behind the front seats and custom build a sealed sub-woofer enclosure that will be flushed with the cargo deck.
