GhstRidr, Thanks for your reply. I have found the wire on my car kit that will mute the radio. I just need to know "where on the radio" to connect it.
memory-x, Thank you for your reply also. I don't think the HHR's steering wheel mute button is negative or positive. When I installed the steering wheel buttons, the wiring harness only had 4 wires going to the switch assembly. It has a total of 5 buttons (mute, vol up/dn, next/last). I think pressing a button sends a code, not just a negative or positive condition... IF this is not the case, is there a suggestion on how to connect my bluetooth car kit "MUTE WIRE" (which provides a GROUND during a call) to my HHR wiring... that will mute the radio when the HHR's wire goes to GROUND? (Or if there is a HHR wire/conection that when +12volt is applied will mute the radio - (I would use a relay to accomplish this)) Thanks again to all...

I have a set of schematics here for our radios. There are actually two different ones. UW5 and a UQ3. Tech told me it will say in your manual which one you have. I can try and scan these or send them to you in the mail if you want.

memory-x, At Chevrolet.com when I "build a 2006 HHR 1LT", it indicates the standard radio for 1LT is "US8" (which I have) and the Pioneer premium 7-speaker system is "UQ3" (which I do NOT have). So, maybe the UW5 is the same as the US8??? I have the AM/FM with RDS and single CD player and MP3. Can you scan and email to me at mcfarland_lc@msn.com? I would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had the tech look it up for an 07. I will ask him to do it for the 06 Monday morning. They may be different, but this will give you an idea of what your looking at. Check your email in about 5 minutes.

memory-x, Thanks for the scans via email. Could you ask the tech what the two connections that reference "cell phone" do? 1) Cellular Telephone Voice Signal (UE1) and 2) Cellular Telephone Voice Low Reference (UE1). Is it possible that "grounding" one of these would MUTE the radio? If not, maybe ask him to ask the "factory folks" if there is a wire on the standard 1LT radio, that if grounded, would mute the radio...? Thank you again for all your efforts and trouble!
