i have a 2008 hhr 2LT and i am trying to install my aftermarket stereo. I have about 4 to 5 grand in my deck, speakers, subs, amps, ect. it took me forever to find the wiring harness for that specific vehicle. finally found it at a best buy 200 miles from where i live. i plugged in the harness and wired up the aftermarket deck the black ground, the yellow constant, and the red accessory wires... everything else is speakers. I hook the battery back up and then plug the wiring kit into my deck. All it does is make a sound like it is ejecting a disk. will not light up, will not turn on, wont do anything. i know the deck isn't fried b/c i had it tested. the aftermarket harness came with a relay switch. I have no idea how to use it. it looks like a giant fuse but i looked in the fuse box under the hood and it doesn't match up to anything. i know the harness works b/c the chime box beeps wen i plug it in. is the cd player not getting enough power? can someone plz help me?... i have spent way too much money jus to say screw it...

 

i would say double check your wiring to the hu.

 

what deck is it?

 

What radio package did your HHR come with, Pioneer system, Onstar? Also what harness did you install? That should help narrow things down a bit.

 

you may not be getting enough juice to push that system with the oem power supply wire. this is only a guess , but i have seen this happen.

 

If you are using the red wire from the harness you aren't supplying it with enough power. Most of the harnesses only provide 1 amp, I know my H/U uses 10 amps. Read any paperwork that came with your harness and radio and make sure you give it enough juice.

If your radio requires more than 1 amp (which it probably does) then tap into your power wire from your fuse block under the dash and use a relay to send the power to your headunit.
