Cheap android auto dongle
Cheap android auto dongle
For those that have upgraded to an Android auto head unit, but didn't get wireless, I found a fairly cheap dongle that works well for the price.
It's a little fiddly on initial setup, as the instructions are VERY generic, they give you the passcode for bluetooth but don't tell you what it's going to show up as on initial scan. I found it on the second attempt, and it took two tries to get it to connect, but since then it has connected every time. My head unit is the cheap PowerAcoustik that walmart was selling for $50 a year or so back, and this dongle is under $40. It does take 45 seconds to a minute from key on to music playing on the XM app, but plugged directly into the head unit it was still often 20-30 seconds. My main reason for going wireless was constant disconnects when I would hit a bump, I had the 3D printed holster for my phone and that probably contributed to it some. I've had this hooked up with the little box hidden in the dash storage for over a month and it's working great.
Worth it if you already have an Android head unit, and want to go wireless without replacing the entire radio.
