Installing a new stereo
The radio in the head unit in our 08 SS decided to stop working when warm, so I picked up a JVC and the Crutchfield installation kit. Built the harness all soldered and heat shrunk to keep it reliable, the supplied pieces made the installation quite easy but the darn radio would not turn on. Crutchfield tech support is superb when you have a problem. Double checked everything and the red wire was never getting power so they sent me a replacement Crux interface which had the same problem. Turn out Crux is a 1/2 hour drive so yesterday morning I showed up at their offices and their engineer took out the stereo and in about 10 seconds said what's all this wire. So he roots around for a bit, unplugs 4 connectors, plugs the Crux box directly into the harness and the radio works. I guess back in 09 or so I'd installed a piece that let us plug an iPod into the stock stereo. We've not used it in years and I'd completely forgotten it was there or how it installed. Anyway, I just wanted to say that the customer service at both Crux and Crutchfield was exceptional, quite unexpectedly given the average level of customer service I see today.
