In Dash 7" NAV/DVD/DTV/RADIO/TOUCH
The ebay auction page for the GPS head unit I just bought says it comes with "Genuine Official Maps" on Micro SD card. The seller states that others on ebay sell pirated copies but that his are made under agreement with the map manufacture.
Ok that sounds good I guess.
I noticed the pictures on the auction page has "lightinthebox.com" across them. So I go to that page to look around. Found my head unit for same price. Also found GPS maps on micro SD cards for sale, with small print at the bottom "Test version for 2-12 months, genuine version is avaiable at domestic map seller."
Oh crap, let me guess this is what comes with my unit and I'll have to pay $$$ for north american gps maps from garmin, tomtom, or ?, ontop of what already paid. Please tell me I'm wrong. I've never had a GPS unit of any kind before and don't know how this works. So what do I need to do to have a dependable accurate north american (at least lower 48) gps maps to use with the head unit I just ordered?

Well I've ran into a snag. I've cut out as much as I'm comfortable with out of the back of the Radio shroud. I still can not fit the friggin thing in there. I'm lacking about 3/4" inch to the mounting holes. It's aggravating the crap out of me because I started it right after I got off work b/c most of my tools are here. Now it looks like I'm going to have to make the trip home with no radio (65 mile commute
) Guess I'll have to wait until I have some daylight tomorrow to see what I'm doing wrong..

Looks like a China unit made for GM dash mounting. If this fit HHR, I would have like it better since its very OE looking.

Here's a video of mine running iGO navigation software instead of the Sygic that comes with it. Much improved, IMO....

I wouldn't really consider it plug and play... You have to buy some type of wiring adapter harness, if you want to keep you warning chimes and turn signals, I went with a GMRC-LAN-03 by Metra:

Also have to get an antenna adapter (Yes I know my link says Chrysler, but that's what fits my HHR:

I used the side brackets from a Double-Din install kit:

The front piece wouldn't fit over my unit unfortunantly, so the unit doesn't exactly match my factory bezel, but it's not terrible by any means.
Once I started doing the install, I had to cut out a good bit of the factory backing behind the radio to make room for the GPS/TV antenna hookups, and to fit all the wiring/plugs that comes with these units, it ended up looking like this:

I'm sorry but I didn't take many pics while I was installing, I was in a hurry. I have not ran the reverse camera yet, not in a big hurry to as I always back into parking spots for whatever reason, and I'm not sure I'd trust just watching the screen for that. I would say it took me around 2 hours for the install because I ran into a couple of snags, but I think it would take me about 30 minutes now that I know what I'm doing...
Also, these units have an AUX in and USB hookups, however they are BEHIND the unit, so if you want to utilize these you have to run extension cables somewhere for easy access, I used the compartment on top of the dash board. Love it, I can load up some vids on my USB stick and throw it on there and they pop right up and play good. This unit also plays every file format under the sun it seems. I haven't had to convert any of my movies to make it work.
