Door speaker depth?

Im upgrading with a 4channel amp and door speakers, already have a mono amp and sub box. I would like to know the max depth for choosing door speakers.
I did a search on here and see anywhere from 2.5 to 4 inches for door speaker depth, some say the front is deeper while others say the rear is deeper.
I would tend to trust the list here: http://www.mobiletoys.com/partners/i.../whatfits.aspx
It lists 3.5" for the front and 4" for the rear. Can anyone confirm this?

The front speaker depth is 3.5" the rear is 4" according to the information listed on the install information in the install bay at Best Buy, where I work.

I have a 6.5" Alpine Type-R component set in my front doors without a problem, and they have BEASTLY magnets.

Yep, 6.5" in all doors.
I would also like the type-r, but a little too rich for my blood. How are the Alpine type S? Is there anything better in that price range?

FORGOT SOMETHIN,
They are not true 6.5" speakers in the doors, they are 6.75"/GM Oversized speakers, Scoche makes an adapter that works GREAT to run true 6.5" speakers, I made my own out of 1/4" MDF when I first chaged out my front speakers. I have since switched to the Scoche pieces in all the doors when I changed everything.

CDT makes some good stuff, several online retailers sell them. Most of the time they are pretty cheap, but they sound INCREDIBLE. www.woofersetc.com is one place that I know of, and they are CHEAP, there is probably more out there just gotta look around.

I am by no means and audio expert as are some of the folks on this forum, however i did just swap out my door speakers for JBL's, and the existing speakers had a mounting adapter that moves them away from the outside door panel (giving you more effective depth). in other words if you mount the speakers to the door, you would have less depth than mounting to the adapter, so you should be able to space the speakers off of the door surface and still fit within the plastic door panel.

If you have the pioneer systems the brackets our removable from the speakers. The basic radio the speakers are moulded into the brackets. Which is stupid. The pioneer brackets fit no problem with the basic system just have to find a set of them.

I ordered an '09 HHR SS with the Pioneer sound system.

I listened to the system during the test drive, but wasn't overly impressed with the mid's and highs. I'm assuming the speakers are the paper/cardboard-type.

Is this the case?

Whatever, I'll replace them with some Infinity Reference speakers.

Thanks in advance.

From my own brief listening, there wasnt a noticable improvement between the sound quality of the factory speakers and the infinity reference, alpine type S, polk or energy components. Maybe Im expecting too much, but for me to go through the effort of the swap, Im looking at $300 a pair for good sounding speakers.
