Gm pal not worth a dime

I went and had the GM PAL installed in my 09 SS. I have a Gen 3 I-Pod. It does sound great, but on the second day it said "no I-Pod" and it was connected. HMM! The I-Pod battery was dead. I took it to the dealer and they said the GM PAL does not support charging on a Gen 3 I-Pod, despite that the PAL manual I received said it would charge the I-Pod. Well with that and the very, very difficlut searching for music I would not recommend it to anyone. In fact I am probably going to take it out.

Can you plug the iPod into the USB jack on the front of the radio?

I recently installed a PAL. It works but is painfully slow just going to the next track. The audio level is way too low compared to the Griffin charger/cradle used with the Aux input jack that I've gone back to using. PAL sound quality is a C+ at best when used with upgraded speakers and sub system. Too bad as the integration is nice, but sound is the priority for me.

May I ask how much they charged for the install?

Install is a simple radio removal, unplugging of the radio harness, plug in the PAL and then plug back into the radio.

Joe you need to turn the volume on the IPOD up to full with the wheel and then adjust the volume as necessary on with the radio knobs. I could here my son coming down the alley 4 houses away when the PAL was in his HHR.

Not all 09s are equipped with a USB.

Hey ChevyMgr, Happy Sunday! I only wish the volume at the iPod wheel comment were true. There is no difference if the volume is all the way down or all the way up on the ipod when connected to PAL or any device that connects through the ipods bottom jack (not the headphone jack). Then that device takes over and the volume control through click wheel is inoperable.
I just again did back to back comparisons with PAL and my Griffin device adjusting the volume at the ipod before connection to no avail.
I know I'm fussy about audio and to most it might not matter, but to me, the PAL killed my aftermarket sub/amp impact and overall volume of the entire system is down quite a bit. The install is not a total loss, I'll use PAL for long rides when I don't need optimum sound with the family along. For my daily commute and for demoing my system, I'll stay with the other set-up.
