HD Radio

Hi

Has anyone tried HD radio or had it installed in your HHR? If so, do you like it?

I am considering it as an alternative to satellite (HD radio had no monthly charges). hdradio dot com

in some areas there is a delay in the programming. the HD signal is laced over the regular programming. so, i would ask a local reputable shop abou the service itself.

In my area (San Francisco) there are about 12 stations with HD channels, so I thought it might be a decent investment. I guess I need to find a radio installation place where I can listen to it. It's supposed to give FM digital clarity (no pops/hiss) and AM more like FM clarity.

we have 16 HD stations and they all do the same thing. not worth IMHO. only reason i had it is because Kenwood gave us installers a free adapter for us to use. didnt like it so i tossed it

HD Radio is the last dying gasp of terrestrial broadcast radio. Still loaded with commercials with maybe two or three minutes of real music or talk radio, payola out the wazoo, and no real selection.

So it has the same clarity of Sirius? I had satellite radio & wasn't pleased. It sounded like compressed internet radio.

The real train of thought is not that it might be a clearer signal but rather that the content is still the poor quality of regular radio.

HD radio is great
I was fed up w/ fm radio stations higher freq fading out on my radio that I gave up listening to fm, was undecided on sat or hd radio so, I only got so many cd's to listen to...
I had the JVC-kd-hdr1 radio installed 2 weeks ago, I LUV IT, I don't need no stinkin sat radio now, never cared for adapters, they always seem to be a compromise, the radio is going for $ 150-200, about what an adapter cost, took a day or 2 to get used to the controls, sat radio is $ 13 a month
hd radio is free
When you change stations it takes a couple of seconds to switch from stereo to digital, then its all good, most station also "multi-cast", which means you get a 2nd hd channel from the same radio station, and this 2nd station is usually commercial free ( except every 15 min they id the station per fcc rules ) so I got 25 extra commercial free stations,( detroit has 25 hd stations ) check hdradio.com to see how many stations are in your area
So how does it sound ?, they ain't lying when they say its close to cd quality,
no more snap, crackle, pop sounds to destroy your speakers
I have infinity kappas in my dynamatted doors, 10" rf sub in a sealed box sitting out of site in the rear pass footwell, and a pair of kenwood amps sitting ont the spare tire cover, let me tell you my system is now complete & its GReeeeeeeeeaT, I can finally crank the radio
