HHR Noise & Vibration Reduction
Hey Brandon, Thanks BIG TIME for all your Expert help on this.
I think my brain was frying towards the end in the heat and dang humidity.
I cut out more of the dash after you left and got the head unit back in place.
Swapped out the AC/Heat/Heated seats control unit.
Installed some more interior panels up front, put the front passengers seat in.
Took it for a Ride and cranked some tunes and picked up a couple 2 litres of Coke, cranked some tunes on the way home.
Just walked in the door and am having a Coke and a Smoke before I go back outside and get some more work done tonight.
As for the sysatem itself, we both agree that it sounds real Good.
BUT (theres Always a "But" isn't there?)
My 12" sub woofer is Not sounding all that good at the moment.
Brandon and I both think it has ALOT to do with the TEMP. Bandpass Box we put it in.
I gotta do something ASAP to FIX that. I bought the box only as a Temporary box, turns out it is just totally the Wrong type of box for my sub woofer. (Bought it Months before I picked the sub.)
Once we get that swapped out I am hoping for more out of the Sub itself.
Thanks again Brandon, had a good time working on the Panel with you.
Thanks for the compliments on it, even tho you have seen it at it's Dirtiest and fully Gutted out.
Wait till I get everything back in and Detail the heck out of it, and you see it then.
Once I get the interior all in I will give you a call and see what we can come up with for the actual Custom Amp Rack and built in sub box.

It got me motivated to get a list together for my car. I'm going to go back stealth/SQ with my system. I decided on the ride home tonight, when I stopped to help out with another car; that I'm going to downsize the system, and do the custom interior.
I can't wait to grab that set of seats, get them to the upholstery shop, and get this thing looking mint again!!!
No problem man.

If this wasn't my daily driver, I'd do full on Custom Fiberglass in the back and build in the Skeleton like in the pics I showed you today.
Those doors looked frickin Awsome.
I'll be seeing you in a few days hopefully.
There you go man. Are you gonna get some Pioneer stuff?

I also can't believe theres absolutely no noise whatsoever. This is the first HHR I've had no noise in.
I'm ditching the A-pillars and going back to the stock with a new set. Even going to repair and suede-wrap the D-pillars I chopped up. I'm going to deaden the roof, and put one of the acoustic barrier products on top of the deadening.
I'm going to keep my current headunit. The rest will include: a JL HD900/5 amp, Hertz ESK165XL speakers up front and rear, and a pair of JL 13TW5's in the floor out back.
I don't really want a big system anymore, I just want clean, stealth sound.
I got one of the doors done today. HOT and Humid today, one was enough.
I covered the back sides with 100% of the audio barrier, then I cut 3" strips and stuck them on the inside edges of the openings and Pressed the fillers into them.
Reaching in and pressing them as a sandwich together then on the second opening in the door I mounted the 3" strips and pulled them forward and out, then Pressed the filler piece into it to get a grip.
Covered all around the outsides edges and they are Locked in place now, can't fall out, or fall inside the doors.
Heres a look at one just about Done and ready to install the door panel.
3 more to go.

Fitting the interior panel, with the access openings filled in the door I hade to cut off 2 protrusions in the foam fillers on the back of the door panel.
I air sawed them off, then smoothed them down with a DA Sander and 100 grit.

I can't get over how good those components sound!!! Although I really like them, I am going to go a bit different.'

I bought them because someone here with the same front speakers said the Tweeters would Not fit the pillars, so I was gonna fiberglass the extra set to Fit them in.
Turns out they Fit just fine and no need for the extra set.
I hooked up that dial switch to the sub amp, and it's a little better with it.
But Pioneer really Designed this 12" sub woofer to use a very small sub box, I think thats the whole problem, that bandpass box I have is way way to Big for the sub woofer.
Sonic has this one- As a Better TEMP box.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...0.7-Black.html
Very Close to Pioneer Specs for the sub woofer. Pioneer calls for 0.8, and it's -Internal Box Volume: 0.749 cubic ft
$19.99 but 18.89 to ship it. Bastages!
I found this have a look.

I have a spare pair of the A Pillars you can have. I test painted one half Black tho. Your going with Black interior anyways and they have to be painted or covered to match anyways.

As for that bandpass box, its completely the wrong enclosure. Theres no port length to it for tuning, and the enclosure doesn't load the woofer properly without correct porting. You need ports for those holes that would be 5.22" in length to get that box tuned to 40hz and sounding good.
I worked on the math side of doing the false floor today at work, according to WinISD, we would need a minimum of 1.02 cu ft for it to play without sounding too restricted and muddy, from 30-80hz. Reason being the woofer displacement. (Since it's not ported, and more of an SQ install, theres no box rise or port turbulance to account for.) There is totally enough space to I can get that displacement, doing an all wood, sealed, enclosure. It would still have room for the amps either on the front or rear edge. The only prob would be that spare tire issue. I'm going to temp one out of Insufoam tomorrow, to see exactly what I can get to fit, and what the displacement is. If its close but not enough, Polyfil can make up for a small difference.
That's how it's wired right now. It has a 2ohm load presented to the amp. I'll find a temp box for ya for around $20. I just gotta see what I have at the shop.
If you wanna give up that set of pillars, I'd be glad to take them. I'm going a total different direction. No worries on the paint, as they would get wrapped in some *****in' suede. I need this car to be just as functional as yours. I'm going to be giving it away as soon as I'm done, so I want it to be stealth, and practical once again.

You Giving your HHR away???? HUH?
Cool on the box, and working on figuring out the Custom part of this.
If this was just my show car, I wouldn't care so much about it all being 100% functional.
But it's my combo daily driver show it off a little and Must be fully usable .
Ahhh Maybe i'll win the Lotto huh?
Pillars are yours dude.

As soon as I finish my car, my brother will take care of it and store it for me. That's the reason I want to downsize the audio. It will all be show quality though.
I'm changing jobs really soon, and I really need a different vehicle(Avalanche), due to the amount of crap I'm going to need to haul around.
Good deal man... Thanks for letting me help ya with your project.

Hell the Thanks is from me to you for coming out in the Heat and getting it done dude.
I want to see and Hear what you end up with.
Oh, what you gonna do with that little rear end you told me about? I may truely be interested in that little thing.

Good luck with the new job, hopes its all you want it to be.
Any sub box layin around the shop, or should I just order somthing up here?
Thanks.
Today I build a mock-up false floor/box out of Insufoam. I couldn't get a Diamond TDX 12, which is approximately the depth of your Pioneer, to fit, with the spare tire in place. It's about 2" too tall.
All we got is a dual 12 box thats sitting in the stockroom... See if you can get something, unless you wanna get rolling on that custom floor. I can build it out of birch, which would be stronger and lighter than the MDF anyway.
I'm going to be taking that plate with the amps on it out this week, and making something new. So that piece will be in the "up for grabs" pile. I have a solution for getting the OnStar speaker done as well.
Now all I gotta do tomorrow is get the suede for the headliner and pillars.
