Move the switch on the dome lamp to the "Off" position, that will keep the reading lamps from illuminating on the rear-view mirror when the hatch is open.

Interesting, I always have my dome light switched off (unless needed). & my mirror lights always still light up when a door is opened.

I've tried this too. I had the dome lights in my silverado set to off. I prefer it to be a manual option.

Well so much for the owner's manual, sorry about that guys, there has to be a way to keep the reading lights off with the hatch open.

Well its less than elegant, but that's one way to handle it sleeper.

Since the dome light switch is part of the latch assembly, I wonder if there is a way to wedge something in there to keep the switch closed mimicking a closed hatch.

Mayhaps disabling the latch closed relay wire?
