Great write up. Saved me some $ and time as well. It only took me about 40min to wire everything up! Just a quick hook up for now. Hope to replace HU and all wiring in near future to really get my HHR Shaking!!!!

So can you get the 4 wires to the 2 rear door speakers from the harness under the passenger carpet? Also, to me "splice" means to make a "Y" basically stealing the signal from the existing speaker wires. This should allow the rear speakers to remain functional and provide the signal to the line out converter. Is this right or do the rear door speakers get cut out to provide the signal?

I can't answer your Q about the harness under the carpet since I have the amplified system. I can tell you that you will be able to retain the rear speakers and just TAP or in your words splice into the factory speaker wires to get your imputs for your line level converter. Like you are thinking you just want to TEE off the speaker wires over to your converter and still have the rear speakers connected.

Hope you realize you're responding to a post from 11 years ago. The time stamp on posts is above each posters name, top left corner.
Besides that, Gooch hasn't logged on here since 2006.
