Loss of audio in a particular range
Hi everyone,
I have an '06 HHR with the stock sound system. I was originally having an issue where I wouldn't get any audio in the right side of my sound system when using the aux input (similar to this thread), although I was able to fix it by slowly pulling the cord out of the input until both sides were audible.
I've noticed, however, that in some of my music (playing from an android phone), a particular portion of the audio range seems lost. This isn't like a whole chunk that can be set in the car's EQ, but more of a particular range, I think somewhere in the middle. The music then sounds really strange, almost like a poor radio editing job. I know for a fact that it isn't an issue with the phone though, since the music sounds fine through headphones.
Has anyone else experienced this issue, and/or knows of a solution apart from buying a new radio/sound system?

I've had the same problem. Look on eBay for a used radio. Can find them fairly cheap. Or you can go with an aftermarket radio. The aux input is soldered on to the circuit board and is not an easy fix. That's what I have been told anyway. Cheaper to buy a new or used original radio and swap them out.
Thanks swerv,
So it's just the radio, and not the speakers? At least that sounds like an easier fix!
When I'm looking for a new radio, do I need to pay attention to a particular spec? Like, are there standards in size, connections, power usage, etc.?

The stock audio system does have weak speakers. I have also had the two door speakers go out. Does the audio quality sound fine when playing a CD or the radio? It's only when the aux input is being used?

Here's a link to a radio off eBay.

If it sounds fine when using the radio I would say you have a faulty aux input. So I would go with a used radio. Installation is fairly simple. Just pop off the radio bezel that surrounds the radio and ac controls. Then there should be four screws to remove and the radio should slide out.
If you get the radio and run into problems just post up on here what you have run into. And someone will help you out.
