I've read a few times here where someone lost a pair or all four. I don't think that's common though. Aside form a couple of people who didn't want to listen to advice, and replaced their whole system only to find out the speakers were bad, anyone who had bothered to report back said new speakers fixed their problems.

 

The reason that you are hearing the tweeters is because the are on the same wires as the front door speakers no real crossover. So, bad door speakers cuts bass and mid but allows highs. That comes from looking at the wiring diagrams that have been posted repeatedly.

I could do a site search and find about 100 instances. I guess in the scheme of total HHRs that isn't frequent, but in terms of posts on a web site pretty high.

Then I could pull out my Mitchell OnDemand and read that if one speaker fails by shorting out the radio will shut them all down to protect itself.

Or you could just read all of the post for the last 10 years like I have and form a subjective opinion.

But if you just don't believe that we could know anything you could do as suggested and test them.

 

Well everyone seems to agree on bad speakers. I am going to replace the front speakers first and see if they work OK and if after a week or so I have no more problems I will then go ahead and replace the rear speakers also. Replacing the front speakers is, I guess, kind of a test. I never would have guessed all the speakers could go out at once. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know the results.

 

Well I did as I said I would. I replaced the front 2 speakers and I have had sound for the last 2 days with no problems. If I adjust the fade to the rear only I just have sound from tweeters.like before, But when I readjust the fade balance to equal setting the sound plays as correctly. So I will replace the rear speakers next week to completely end problem. Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for help.
