I just read it somewhere.
Could it be wrong? Don't know.

As far as a difference of year models, I don't really know.

RE: XM Confusion

Good day,

I am new to the site as well and I purchased my first HHR. It is a 2006 HHR LT2. Now, I am having the same issue as the OP but I think mine is equipped with everything needed to be XM-ready. I have a trial set up and active but the issue I am experiencing is that when I refresh, all I get is a "NO SIGNAL" on channel 1 and 184. I tried refreshing while in the vehicle but no go. This is my ID sticker in my glove box as well as my antennas I have on the car. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure if this is the stock one that came with the vehicle in 2006 or an aftermarket one. I am assuming like someone said in the previous posts that the shark fin is integrated in the front for satellite and the rear picks up digital signals. Not too sure. Everything is still there from my knowledge.

I have XM only without OnStar and have the flat style rear antenna like on Ghettoracer's pic below. I am pretty sure that that rear antenna is for XM. I have read before that the shark fin style ones are for cars with both XM and OnStar but that is just what I have read.

Mine does not come with OnStar. Technically, I should have a fully functional XM ready setup but it is not working lol my HHR is due to go in for the recall soon cause they finally got the part in, 3 week wait. So I will have to ask them to troubleshoot what's going on.

I have the 'shark fin' antenna like firemangeorge in post 14 and the front mast. I have XM and OnStar. I am pretty sure the shark fin antenna is for xm and onstar and the front mast is for am/fm. I do not think the front mast has xm reception capability. Every vehicle I have owned with xm has used a seperate antenna for xm. My 2008 Dodge truck came with Sirus and the antenna would NOT receive XM. When I installed a Pioneer receiver with XM I had to install an XM antenna for it. Now that they are combined Sirus/XM I guess that problem no longer exists. So I guess my point is does the OP's HHR have an antenna that is for Sirus or XM because in 06 or 07 they were different and that may be the reception problem.

XM "Ready" does not necessarily mean the hardware is installed. Usually it means that if you buy the hardware the install is "easy".

I seem to remember that the XM protocol went away after Sirius bought it. Or, maybe vice-versa.

Remember HD ready TVs?
