OEM subwoofer

well wish I would have listened to everyone. Installed a stock sub using Pac adapter for rca's and a nice 250 watt alpine amp. Sounds like crap like everyone said, seems better when I run it in series at 4 ohms. Doesn't really sound bad at low volumes, just has no punch. Will an aftermarket speaker in stock enclosure make much of a difference? Don't want to use aftermarket enclosure cause I need all the space. It's a panel so I guess I could hack up storage box but I'm sure would rattle horribly. What speaker would everyone recommend for stock enclosure.

Well that's half the fun of trial and error! Some will chime in now with thief suggestions.
My OEM pioneer premium sound system sounds great to me but that could be my Tenitous !

Well unless you get a monster 8 inch sub, your not gonna have alot of punch. I think, not sure you have about 4.5 inches of mounting depth in the stock enclosure. Which is not alot. Tey looking at the shallow mount subs. Also keep in mind the enclosures internal air space , and the recommendation of if the sub is best for sealed or ported enclosures. Lot more to it than just dropping a sub in. But good luck.

Well zapshd, first a word of warning, your humble Administrator(me) dates from an era when a Bangin' system was a Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette unit in the dash and a pair of Pioneer 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf. Yup, I'm that old, even used to install 8-Tracks in cars.

So try punching "Subwoofer" or "Aftermarket Subwoofer" in our Google linked Search box at the top of the page, Subs have been the topic of a ton of discussion here over the last decade.

Plus, eventually, one of our Audio Guys/Gals will chime in with some info.

Wow, my first aftermarket unit was a Muntz 8 track and two Base 48 Speakers so I'm not the one to ask about audio.
But there are a lot of threads here about sub installs, it's really personal preference

I did do all of the searches, but unfortunately as sometimes and usually happens these reply's go off kilter and the question never truly gets answered. yes I enjoy the friendly banter, but for example I get reply's of 8 tracks and old age. so unfortunately when your response is to do a search, that's not always the correct answer when some questions are truly never answered. all good, did not mean to rant.

My apology also for the slight venture off the beaten track zapshd, but I think Olblue has steered things back on course...so thanks Steve, very much appreciated.

One thing to keep in mind zap, is that being a forum, we have some folks like our really hardcore Audio Experts who might go weeks without checking in.

If you see a reply in a thread you've found by using the Search function, and you'd really like to pick Member X's brain, click on their username and send them a PM.

More often than not, they'll gladly write back to you with info and insights.

I have a PIONEER TS-SW2002D2 in a stock enclosure. It works well with the amp I have running it.
