I have the Z2 installed in my HHR.
When I turn my headlights on, it switches to night display which is black.
On the Z2, you can adjust the brightness by pressing the "V" button.
It can be adjusted for both day and night modes.

Side note: I just updated my Z2's Hard Disk to the Z3's software with all the new maps for 2008, as well as a 60GB hard drive. Very nice!

Just make sure you get the correct wiring harness and the speed sensor, back up light and illum. will work perfectly. I have the D3 in my SS and love it. I need to get the backup camera now.

Can you give a list of parts required to install that? I know you need the mounting kit, you also need something to retain the use of the steering wheel buttons. What about XM/OnStar?

I had a D2 in my Vibe, and since you couldn't take the face off, it ended up getting stolen.

#130AVICD3X Pioneer AVIC-D3X DVD Navigation Receiver Package

#120OSLAN04 Metra GMOS-LAN-04 GM Onstar LAN Data Bus Interface

#127SWIPS PAC SWI-PS - Pioneer and Sony Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface

#120953302 GM Kit 2004-Up, DD

That's the stuff I ordered from Crutchfield. They threw in the antenna adapter and because I ordered everything at once they cut the price of the Metra adapter in half.

Awesome. What about XM? It should be possible to reuse the original antenna right? .. so other than the list you described, you only need an antenna adapter and a dremel?

I see you guys putting these awesome radios in your HHR's but each time I run them through Crutchfields selector, it always says it will not fit! I even ran the double din adaptor mentioned above and they say it will not fit. What gives?

Just need the antenna adapter, Dremel and shop vac! When I cut area behind the radio what a mess. Good thing the plastic is balck so if I missed picking it up it just blended with the carpet. The double din adaptor will fit. You'll need to trim off two tabs on the top but it works great. I tried to tell Crutchfield but whatever. I haven't had any problems with my stereo since the install.
