Hello,I am new to the forum. My wife has a 2006 HHR LT1 and I just bought a 2006 HHR LT2.Both are black. The question I have is that my radio display does not work,no info or anything,but the radio and cd play fine.Is this a common problem,is there a fix,blub replacement?. Also is it true that one the radio loses power,you have to go to the dealer to have it reprogrammed?

 

welcome to the site, If the radio is playing but no light on dial looks like the lights are out . Did you ck fuse? Do all other dash light work? Dimmer not turned down to far.

 

As oneton said, check your dimmer switch and fuses, if they check out you have a bad head unit. They can be found on e-bay for reasonable prices, but you will have to take your HHR to the dealer for programming once the new radio is installed. The going rate for programming seems to float between $60 and $80.

 

Yes the dimmer is up,all other lights work.Which fuse could it be? Is this a common problem?

 

Every once and a while my radio display will disappear or have just a few pixels of readout showing.
A sharp "thump" on the volume knob will make it work again.
( I hear you folks snickering.)
Tried to take it by the dealer a few times for warranty but it's always working when I get there.
I guess I need to snap a picture or some video when it happens.

 

So I guess I'll replace the non working raido with a new one.I perfer to keep it factory stock,as I have the upgraded unit with sub which is fine for me.Does anyone know which head unit I should look for?.I hear some of the optional units had a six disc changer in dash as well as bluetooth and usb.I do not have onstar or the little ant on the rear roof,so no xm. Which would be the best factory unit to shop for?
