masterchief,

A pillar tweeters will still be functional, unless you disconnect them. I left mine functional when I replaced my door speakers. No problems.

I did not disconnect mine when installing new two way speakers. Has presented no problems.

I thought the pillar tweeters were wired to the front door speakers?

I would recommend insulating the doors behind any speakers that you swap or even the sock speakers and see the difference. Crutchfield does have an adapter that lets you keep all the bells and chimes
