what he didnt catch was the factory set up is already a DUEL driver system..but, IF it was a single driver at 2 ohms .. adding a DUAL 2 ohm speaker would drop it to 1 ohm and drive the amp, just like he said. Since the factory system is a duel driver, going to a dual 4 ohm will cut your power in half....sorry.

So I should out with the extra $100 and get the dual-2ohm-shallow Helix.

Thanks all. X2 to Woody

yep...though, to clarify one point..I said the 4ohm speaker will cut your power in half..should actually read, it will take twice as much power to equal the 2 ohm set.
The factory went 2 ohm because they could use a smaller amp to get the same 'amount' of sound from system. There was a day where all speakers were 8 ohm and it took lots o power to run these..

Both ways are correct and actually since we are refering to the factory amps use then the first way was the correct statement. This sub will only get the amp to produce half the power it did with the factory sub.

For the box add polyfill about 1/2lbs inside the box and use some kind of sound deadener to lower the resonence of the box. Tiy wont be able to make it stiff plus the factory sub botls to both the front and the back of the box acting like a brace. Once you go with a non factory sub this brace across the weakest wall is removed.

Are you strictly looking at shallow mount woofers? If so, Memphis S-Class is a very good woofer and is my personal choice when it comes to a shallow woofer besides the Stereo Integrity BK MIII which is leaps up on all of them.

I could not find a shallow Memphis. I'm told they used to make one but discontinued? Would you/anyone have a link to one?

voice coil configuration is simply to match your amps.

you design your amps and subs around each other.

some amps have more power bridged at 4 ohm. some monos have more power at 2 ohm. it all depends.

Example: RF p500-2. 125w rms x2 @ 4 ohms. 250w rms x2 @ 2 ohms. 500w rms x1 bridged @ 4 ohms

alpine MRP-m500: 300w rms @ 4 ohms. 500w rms @ 2 ohms.

2 ohms isn't always more power on some amps.

Personally I like dual 4 ohm subs because I can get 2 of them and wire to 1 ohm. But really it's just a matter of system design.

Used the car selector feature, but it seems that they just send these out with just about any speakers for any car, judging by the comments.
Yeah those are wrong, you might fit them by drilling holes in the doors, but then why bother with adaptors. These are what you need, search ebay for "hhr speaker adaptors"

But have you looked at the factory mounts, based on what others have posted I thought the upgraded pioneer system came with separate adapters.

In the OP's case though, he is using the factory amp which is a 2 ohm per channel x 2 channels for the sub so dual 2 ohm sub is what he needs for this setup.

Yes the upgraded factory Pioneer system has seperate adapters for the speakers. The adapters look very similar to that pic.
