Sub and speaker question.....

Hi Gang, I have the Pioneer setup with the sub in my car. However, I don't really like the way the sub works. If I turn up "bass", I get lots of dull thumping (like the kick drum sound), and no upper bass/low mids in the bass guitar range. Yes, I am a bass player by avocation. I end up turning down the "bass" some and turning up the "mid" which helps only a little.

Here is the question(s) - Can the rear speaker mated to the sub amp be changed out to get a less bottomy, boomy bass range?

Is the frequency range controlled by what the main stereo unit sends to the sub? Or is the frequency of the sub the only thing it will reproduce?

I don't need more volume, just less low bass and more upper bass. I am thinking perhaps a good quality full range speaker mated to that amp would solve some of my problem? Can the sub speaker be separated from the amp?

Many thanks, and God Bless, Marc

What youre looking for is midbass. Some of the better companies sell dedicated midbass drivers, Morel comes to mind. Put them in the rear doors.

I found that sealing the doors and creating more of a chamber helped fill in that area between the sub and the mids.

Definitly dampen all the doors and rear hatch.....also wrap sub box and drop in some polyfill...world of difference..actually have to knock the bass back 2 notches

What did you use to dampen the doors?

I used secondskin Damplifier. I put 2 layers on the outer door material and 1 layer on the inner door.
