Various HHR Sub Installs...
Update on my sub/amp set-up
Now everything in the back is black, and the side compartment where the factory sub was has a hinged door.

Covered with hats for street parking. The hats hang down straight, while the amps angle towards the front of the car so there is plenty of air flow for cooling

Open for display at car shows.

The lower compartment opens with the sub in place. I designed the enclosure to be shallow enough so as not to block the door.
The sub is attached via the head rest posts, and hinges forward with the seat for access to the compartment under it as well as for carrying large objects.

The amp rack. Enough power to push my 10 inch Infinity Kappa to the point that it shakes the rear view mirror where you cant see things behind you clearly.

The side compartment. I hate wasted storage space. (See my other post in Appearance).

Still enough room for a bed! How many others can do this and still have all of their stereo equipment in place and working?

I finally took pics of the final results. I am able to carry whatever i want in the back. The wife uses it for her work at a dog groomer. The spare is still under the sub box. 5 screws and it comes out. 3 in amp and 2 for the exile passive crossovers mounted to box.
The cover panel that hides it all and so the wife can carry dog crates for work.

The vinyl trim panel covering the box and flushing in the amp.

Another view of trim panel.

My Audioworks 12's. I love em. They sound wonderful.

My Soundstream D'artagnan 5.1 amp. Possibly getting replaced by 2 xtants.

The spoils of the hard work. 4 MECA SQ shows and 4 wins so far. 2 shows to go. TN state finals and World finals.

My BOS medal, phat install, most improved, and since the HHR is car/suv i got a phat car at one show and phat truck at another.

You got more of them than i do tho. The lil ones are in my china cabinet usually and the bigger one stands next to the TV. Hopefully after finals ill have more. I think I should get TN amateur points champ.
Thanks for the compliments. It was installed with functionallity in mind, and the wifes right foot in my a$$, if she couldnt use the hatch.

My dB Drag Finals are Oct 10-11.
I wish you good luck.
From the looks of the interior I bet your gonna do well at finals and rack up much more trophies.
The TN state finals are Oct. 26. They will be at Tennessee Speed Sport
709 Rivergate Parkway, Goodlettsville, TN 37072 @ I-65 exit #96.
The World Finals are Nov. 8. They will be at the TN State Fairgrounds.
Good luck to you also. Thanks for the good luck ill need it at World. There is a couple guys tearing it up. One guy from AL has all high end morel stuff in an amateur car. Must be nice to be able to afford that. I think there should be a budget cap for amateur, but oh well we will see what happens.

The speakers and amp are protected by the black carpeted cover. Its made from 3/4" MDF and 1/4" pegboard. I have sat on it numerous times messing with amp and x-overs. Its sturdy. I can haul pretty much anything I want. I hauled my 42" plasma tv and its 60lb base back there. Thats the reason for the cover, to be able to haul what i want and to hide everything.
thats pretty sick, I was going to try to mount my 2 12" subs in the cargo table, then I had an epiphany, I bought a panel and I am going to try to build fiberglass enclosures in the rear cargo area in the window well, I recently (today) took a road trip to a junk yard to buy a back seat for the panel and while I was there I grabbed the rear quarter upper trim panel for the left and rights side, the goal is to use them to build the fiberglass sub enclosures directly into/onto them, them take them to a body shop and get them painted to match the exterior. then swap them with the existing panels... still in the planning phase. I'm just happy I was able to swap the cargo bin in the panel out for the seat. BTW if anyone is thinking of doing this BE CAREFUL, it was easy (about 10 bolts total) but the frame they built to hold the storage bin has sharp, jagged edges. sliced my hand up pretty good a couple times
thoughts?
thoughts?
