XM Installation Location

I mounted my Roady receiver on the center console between the seats just in back of the little rectangular cubby and just in front of the rear cup holder. It's powered by the rear power point. It's not the killer set-up but it's clean, out of the way and works fine. I'll post some pix next chance I get in a couple of days so you can at least check it out and consider it.

Here are some pics for another option. I installed mine by using existing holes and compartments. The only mod is to the mat in the place holder under the switches. I have all the wiring behind the xm except the audio to the radio.

That's one of the cons- and pros. You can't see it very well. But I use the remote to change it and don't really need to see the face. And it's out of my way in the front. Again- not the ideal set-up.
As far as candid228's set-up- that looks great.
Of course, that looks like a panel dash- that would block the window buttons for most of us. And not a Roady.
Ideally, I would just buy the aftermarket receiver for the XM-ready HU but that's a few hundred $$$ installed- this was free.

might not be much help to you, but I mounted a Sirius Sportster4 in another car by removing a trim panel, and fabricating a bracket that had 2 L bends in it. 1 L bend to mount it to my climate control unit...slid the trim piece back on, and the opposite L bend was where I mounted the Sirius receiver, so it sits just to the right of the console, but is solid enough, and out of the way:
Perhaps something similar could be done in the HHR, although the trim sure seems to fit tighter, and doesnt give as much as other cars.
