Brakes and Struts
Brakes and Struts
I got new brakes and rotors a year ago. 2 months after getting them put on they started making this grinding noise when I stop. They said it was because of the new stuff in brakes but they are fine. Now they are making a thudding noise when I stop. They said that I need something added to my brakes plus new struts. Has anyone else had this problem?
It does sound like struts or springs to me.
I wonder what "something" can be added to the brakes. If that is all that you take away from a mechanic, then you need some learning. An educated consumer is a bad mechanics worst enemy. (other words edited out).

if thudding sound when braking is hard, it sounds like the discs might be warped?
try braking from highway speed to slow speed several times in row, to make them hot and they might straighten a bit (make sure no one is behind)

When braking and the thudding sound happens, does the steering wheel shake? Or does it feel like it's coming through the seat?
Steering wheel shake - front rotors warped - either resurface or replace rotors
Feeling through seat - rear rotors/drums warped - either resurface or replace rotors/drums
