The "proportioning" is done by the EBCM in cars with ABS. And the brakes are NOT separated the way they used to be; They are RF/LR LF/RR in a X not Front and Rear.

 

So are the master cylinders the same between disc/drum cars? I never was able to sort that out... I just know guys made the swap without changing the MC and it worked fine.

 

The front calipers in the non Brembo SS , are a smaller bore then LS/LT and the contact surface of drum brakes are greater then disc brakes .
The larger diameter SS rotors with the drum brakes of the LS/ LT are quite sufficient for everyday driving, the added rear disc setup from the SS , really isn’t that much of an improvement, except the adjustment for the drum brakes is eliminated.

:-) So... the general consensus on the master cylinder is? Do we have part numbers and specs to compare? I'm all for not having to change that out if not needed. I'm not going to jump on this anytime soon, I'm just a fan of not having drum brakes at the rear. I tend to drive very aggressively (I know, I know...) and the extra braking, no matter how moderate, is going to be appreciated. I do plan on the SS front swap though in the very near future when the weather decides what the hell it wants to do here on the east coast...

according to our friends at RockAuto for the 2010 HHR SS 2.0 non Brembo and the 2.4 LT have the same master cylinder part number

I agree, now, if you own an SS and upgrade to Brembo front rotors and calipers, do you need a different master cylinder? Most that do that swap do not say anything about a different MC , most do upgrade to braided SS brake hoses, mostly for the extra length
