Drum to Disc replacement

I have a 2007 Chevy HHR 2LT 2.4L A/T FE3 Suspension, five lug hub with ABS and have been looking into rear disc brakes.

I have seen a Cobalt owner do it, and read about a HHR owner doing it.

From what I can tell you just swap the axle with a SS axle, and a Cobalt or HHR axle will work?

The only thing you have to worry about it the parking brake cable, correct?
Even the brake booster and ABS system have no problems with the new axle correct?

I'm starting to look to junkyards and Craigslist to see if anything pops up.

Is there any downside for doing this? I think it will make brake pad replacement easier, and will look cooler, plus make my HHR even more unique.

Is this a dumb idea? It seems most newer cars have 4 wheel disc brakes?
Please let me know, thank you!

If you get an rear SS axle from a wrecking yard get the e brake cables with it!
One of our members bought a Cobalt SS wreck and vultured the carcass for all the parts involved.

I have done what your talking about. I have built a set of tabs that weld on to your axle. Then all you half to do drill some holes to mount your caliper and use all GM SS brake parts. Quiet easy to do and if you upgrade your front brakes to the 11.70 rotors with the SS caliper bracket you can get from GM you will enjoy braking more. I have got over 15K on my set up with no shimmy or brake fade.
If you go to my profile page and look at my pics you can see what I did.

Ok, cool. Then I might do it if I get ahold of a SS axle, I'll keep my original axle the same just incase. And make another diy post about it.

Because I've searched here and haven't found a true diy, except for the one with the pictures missing.
