Hissing sound from under dash

I have an 2007 HHR with 93 K on it, and I noticed to day there is a hissing sound, (or air escaping sound coming in from under the dash.) the sound isn't my a/c, shut it off, sound is still there. But the sound goes away when I press on the brakes, making me think it's something with my brakes. I turned the car off and the sound slowly dissapaited.

Any ideas would be helpful, and please no snake jokes..

****I just noticed that the boot that goes from the back of the brake pedal to the firewall appear to have some leakage at the bottom of the boot.****

Sounds like a leaking brake booster.

Either a leaking brake booster or the vacuum supply line going into it.

Maybe, the funny thing is... The "hissing" sound has went away, but it threw a engine code of P0171.. So now I'm really stumped... Because if my memory serves me correct, the is an O2 sensor code..

Sounds like you have a broken or leaking flex pipe, they'll throw a P0171 if the oxygen sensors are reading lean due to an exhaust leak. Give this thread a read....

Could be dealing with 2 seperate issues. I refer to the OP's original post.
" I turned the car off and the sound slowly dissapaited" This quote sounds like a brake booster/vacuum leak not a flex pipe issue. The CEL that popped up seems to be from something else. Just my 2 cents, based on the original post.

Yeah firemangeorge, he might have a combination of issues, its an unlikely combo but not impossible I suppose.

Question Whistle noise

I was thinking i was the only one who thought i had a brake booster leaking. The other day i noticed my brake pedal felt soft. Was going down farther
than it used to. Then i heard a whistling noise when i let off the brake. Took it to a GM dealer to make sure. Said all was fine. I know a soft pedal when i feel one. I work in a new car dealer parts dept. Not Gm. Tech thinks its leaking booster also. Anyone else had to replace a booster?

Sounds like the master cylinder may be leaking. Check the brake fluid level..
